Photography inspiration from the EU 07-24-08

I want to make these posts more often, it’s rare for me to ponder a contemporary photographer’s portfolio and drool. Fatsarazzi’s Nikon F Project is tight and his portrait work is fresh.

Emanuele Fontanesi is capturing points with film which are truly inspiring, his recent spread in PIG Mag was out of hand. He is responsible for putting the audience inside the moment, and I can’t stop thanking him.

The Death Of A Legend //Polaroid 05-12-08

A 30 year old legend is reborn and dies in my hands. The Polaroid Land Camera II is a difficult camera to operate “well” due to the simplicity of the design and development factor. The camera has one setting which is a simple focus ring on the end of the plastic lens. Tempature effects development time which is 60 seconds at 20°, for temperature’s below 12° a removable steel heat slide is attached to the back of the unit. I have experience peeling this format because of the Landback, peeling speed and consistency also effect the quality of the image. Cause of death, a damaged spring which controlled the shutter.

Her rebirth was short, however she will live on in these photographs.

Chinatown East Side //6×7 05-02-08

Fashion flavored shoot in an alley between Hastings St. and Pender St. My assistant reflected the setting sun on the subject using a Litedisc, the extra bit of natural light helped a great deal. All the shots are on a tripod and exposed for 1 second. I used the Mamiya 6×7 Pro-S with a Sekor 127mm Barrel circa 1976. The Polaroid is from the Land back I use for primarily testing exposure and colour tempature.

Vacant East 3rd and Alley //Digislr 04-19-08

I found this warehouse while exploring alley’s in East Vancouver early 2006. It seemed to be locked down tight however exploration of the large sliding doors allowed me to find the bar lock. A haven of sorts, for a few graffiti artists in town but also the home of a few people down on their luck. The building was demolished in the summer of 2007.
